ברוך הבא Baruch Haba! Welcome!
Why study Hebrew? If you want to know the Bible better, study Hebrew. The source if Modern Hebrew spoken today in Israel: the only ancient language to have been resurrected as a modern spoken language. You have found my humble site for Lashon HaKodesh, the Holy Tongue. I am a Mom and Grandma who began studying Hebrew to assist my understanding of the Hebrew praise songs I was singing for our Messianic Jewish Synagogue praise team way back in 1999. A home educator at the time, this quickly led to learning Hebrew in order to teach my children. At first, I read transliterated Hebrew (a phonetical representation of the Hebrew written with English alphabet), but soon found that the discrepancies of various writers made this effort only partially accurate.
Learning some conversational Hebrew led to my dreams both to visit Israel, and to be able to converse at least at a rudimentary level with native speakers. At the same time, I yearned to have a fuller understanding of the Tanach: Torah, Nevi'im and Ketuvim (Law, Prophets and Writings). I have studied much more in depth since 2008, participating in the Hebrew classes taught in my synagogue, and online classes from Seth Young in Jerusalem.
I taught my first Beginning Hebrew class in 2009, to an eager group of home educated children, which served the purpose of cementing some concepts more thoroughly in my middle-age brain. Teaching others is the BEST way to learn a subject more completely yourself! I currently tutor Hebrew students in individual and class settings.
